I've had one of these in my furnace for about 8 years - haven't done a thing with it. I took it out to clean it, and it had some lime build-up on it, but other than that, was fine. I tried to clean it by soaking it in vinegar water (which the instructions said to do). The frame broke at the bottom corner, where 2 holes were drilled. But for only having to replace once in 8 years, with little maintenance in between, I'm happy. And it doesn't smell as the fabric ones did.
